Real Personal Covid Vaccine Story

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

#Covid19 has impacted the world in so many different ways. The things that once brought one comfort is now of the past and the future is unknown. What started out as a virus quickly developed into a #pandemic. A pandemic that changed the lives of nearly everyone on the planet and some changed forever. In the beginning it didn't seem real, everything seemed to happen so fast. False information was given and people had no idea what was really happening. A dream is what it felt like, no more like a nightmare. Not being able to touch the ones held near and dear to the heart or able to sit and dine at a favorite restaurant. Then something changed, something that a lot of people were not ready for, just like no one was ready for the pandemic itself. A #vaccine was created, a vaccine that could possibly help everyone. Finally something that could change the direction of things and possibly allow everyone to begin to live a normal life again. People were once again afraid of the unknown but I chose to step out on a leap of #faith, not just for me but for my family, my community and everyone around me. This is my real personal #covid vaccine story.

The Process

The department I work in was told that the vaccine was available for us all. It was up to each individual to decide whether or not this was something they wanted. Upon learning that it was now available I decided that I would go and get it, along with other employees as well. We were told that we would be given an appointed time to be at the vaccine location and that we would be required to sit for 15 minutes following the vaccine. On the day of the vaccine I walked to the designated area where I was given information regarding the vaccine and the possible side effects. I was also asked whether or not I was feeling "ok" that day.

After checking in and providing all the required information I was advised to have a seat and wait to be called to the next available area. I was called and sat with a wonderful young lady who informed me that I would receive my first shot that day and needed to return 21 days later for the second and final shot. She asked me which arm I preferred for the injection and I chose my left arm because I am right handed. I get an annual flu shot and it tends to make my arm a tad bit sore. She then provided with a small white card with my name and the date of my next scheduled shot. Moments later I was hit with a needle that stung quite a bit. She placed a bandage on it and reminded me that there was a six day window for my second shot. I had the option of returning five days before the actual 21st day but was advised that I had to be back no later than that actual day.

I got up and was escorted to a seating area where those who had already received their shots were sitting. Another young woman comes up to me and points me to a seat. She asked me to set my clock for 15 mins and told me that I was required to wait there until that time was up. It was for observation, to see if there were any problems after the vaccine was given. Then she notified me of a code that I needed to scan with my phone. That code would then take me to a site that would be used to check on my health and symptoms over the next couple of days. So I did as requested and I sat and waited until my 15 minutes were up like everyone else.

My alarm went off and I raised my hand and informed the young woman that my time was now up. She asked me how I felt and if I felt any different? I told her that I felt the same as when I arrived and she said her goodbyes, as did I and I was on my merry way.

What Happened After The Vaccine

I was informed before hand that I would need to take the vaccine on the day before my day off. This was just a precaution in place in case of any major symptoms that could come afterwards. The next day I still felt normal but my arm was quite sore. My body had a slight ache to it but nothing that was unbearable. I continued to do my daily routines as if I had never gotten a vaccine. Later that day I received a notification that stated I needed to "check in". The notification sent me to a page that asked me various questions regarding how I was feeling at that time and what where my symptoms if any. I responded honestly and was thanked for my response. I continued on with my day and the rest is now the past.

In Summary

I wrote this #blog because I know that these are scary times. I know that there is so much uncertainty and unanswered questions. I wanted to share my experience so that it could give some answers to some questions. I was scared and very anxious even after I got my vaccine and that is the honest #truth, but if I can help put someone else at ease then my job is done.

With any and everything in life we must take chances but if there is a way to get the truth then the chance would be more a leap of faith, believe or desire. My #experience may not be the same as others but it is my truth and I want to share my truth with anyone who is willing to listen. I hope this touches the hearts of those that were intended to be touched and I pray that your experience goes just as smooth as mine.
